what is iittala
IITTALA is a Finnish tableware designer and has been providing inspiration for a more beautiful and enjoyable life since 1881. The Scandinavian values are still at the core; all designs are balanced, progressive, and essential.
their mission
IITTALA wants to make timeless, high quality and functional products whilst being as sustainable as possible.
The design items offered by iittala are timeless and enduring, transcending fast fashion and resisting the throwaway culture. They accomplish this by creating designs with long lifespans and developing circular solutions, exemplified by their remarkable 100% recycled glass collection.
The unique manufacturing processes employed results in each recycled item possessing its own distinct characteristics, including a range of colors from cool blue to soothing green and neutral earth tones.
Their goals
IITTALA is dedicated to minimizing its environmental footprint and continuously advancing sustainability efforts.
As a part of the Fiskars Group, the company is making a significant investment of approximately €10,000,000 in the IITTALA glass factory located in Finland. This substantial investment is aimed at achieving a remarkable 74% reduction in the factory’s CO2 emissions by 2026.
To achieve this, the existing gas-powered glass melting furnaces are being replaced with modern electric furnaces, further enhancing energy efficiency, and reducing environmental impact.
What makes them sustainable?
Did you know that glass can be endlessly recycled?
It’s such a waste to throw glass in the regular trash! iittala, the Finnish tableware designer known for its sleek Scandinavian designs, is well aware that glass can be used over and over again. You can see this in their 100 precent recycled glass wear collection! As you have read above, they are also part of the Fiskars Group, where they promote change with three long term sustainability commitments: against throwaway culture, for a carbon neutral future and for increased joy.
Moreover, iittala also offers recycled mugs and felt bags made from 100% recycled polyester, further contributing to their commitment to sustainability.
